Steinbrunner becomes ONU's first OAC Champion as Women's XC finishes 3rd at OAC Championships

WILMINGTON — Freshman Alison Steinbrunner became the first Ohio Northern women’s cross country runner to win the Ohio Athletic Conference individual title, leading ONU to a third place finish at the OAC Championships on Saturday morning.

The Polar Bears (46-27) finished third with 83 points in the 10-team field.

Steinbrunner won the OAC individual crown in 21:54.32 over the 6,000-meter course, finishing first out of 115 runners, while also receiving First Team All-Conference honors in the OAC.

Senior Rachel Smith and junior Amy Davis finished 16th and 18th, respectively, to receive Honorable Mention All-Conference kudos.

Smith finished in a time of 23:29.57, while Davis had a career-low time of 23:35.29.

Sophomores Mallory Bloom and Kelly Casanova finished the scoring for the Polar Bears on the afternoon with 23rd and 25th place finishes, respectively, in times of 23:49.83 and 23:53..82.

Northern finished in third place with 83 points behind first place Baldwin-Wallace with 37 points and second place John Carroll with 72 points.

The Polar Bears will return to action November 14th at the NCAA Division III Regionals at Rose-Hulman (Ind.) Institute of Technology.
