Stapp scores twice, but Capital rallies past Women's Soccer 6-4

ADA — Erin Stapp scored twice as the Ohio Northern women’s soccer team built a 4-0 halftime lead, but Capital answered with six second half goals to post a 6-4 victory Tuesday afternoon at the ONU Soccer Field.
The Polar Bears fall to 7-4-1 overall and 1-1 in Ohio Athletic Conference play, while the Crusaders improve to 6-3-2, 1-1.
ONU dominated the first half of the match off goals by sophomore Chelsea Albert, senior Erin Stapp (two) and sophomore Natalie White, putting the Polar Bears ahead 4-0.
Albert was the first to score in the match off a header from Kaitlin Sanders.
Stapp scored two goals for the Polar Bears. The first came from an assist off Stacey Barnhart, with Stapp beating the goalie at the far post. The second goal was scored off an assist from Jamie Eiben allowing the Polar Bears a comfortable 3-0 lead.
White scored off a penalty kick with 13 seconds left on the clock ending the first half with an ONU lead of 4-0.
The Crusaders came out strong in the second half. Sophomore Kaylee Phillips, junior Tasha Ballard and junior Katie Robinson put in two agoals piece to rally a 6-0 run.
Phillips scored off a break away through ball from teammate Molly Sheils and put in a shot from 25 yards out off an assist by Ciara McClennan. This put the Score at 4-2, with the Polar Bears still in the lead.
Ballard scored unassisted after she picked up a free ball to beat the goalie. Minutes later assisted by Chelsea Caldwell’s through ball Ballard scored again tieing up the game 4-4.
Robinson ended the game scoring the two winning goals for Capital off a long pass from McClellan for a break away goal and unassisted with a breakaway off a steal putting the final score at 6-4.
ONU outshot Capital 22-19 and had three corner kicks compared to only two for the Crusaders.
The Polar Bears will be on home turf this Saturday at 2 pm as they take on Mount Union.
