ADA - Sophomore Erica Schoenberger nearly recorded her first career double-double with 12 point and a career-high nine rebounds, but John Carroll defeated the Ohio Northern women's basketball team 61-50 Saturday afternoon at the ONU Sports Center.

The Polar Bears fall to 8-13 overall and 6-8 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Blue Streaks improve to 11-10, 6-8.

JCU played solid defense all day, as they only allowed Northern to shoot 26.5 percent (13-of-49) from the field for the game, including 1-of-11 from beyond the arc.

The Polar Bears did have a resounding advantage from the free throw line, connecting on 23-of-30 to just 8-of-12 from the Blue Streaks.

Senior Alisha Rinehart converted on all 10 of her chances from the line en route to a game-high 18 points on the day.

John Carroll also moved the ball exceptionally well on the day with 19 assists on its 24 field goals. ONU had only five assists in the game.

Freshman Kara Dysert gave Ohio Northern its first lead of the game at 8-6 just under six minutes into the game on a layup.

After a layup by JCU, Rinehart responded with two of her free throws to put the Polar Bears back up two points before Lee Jennings hit a 3-pointer for the Blue Streaks to put JCU up for good with 12:04 remaining in the first half.

ONU never allowed the lead to reach double-digits in the first half and went into halftime trailing 27-21.

The Polar Bears went on an 8-3 run to begin the second half and trim the deficit to a point after Rinehart connected on two more free throws with 14:53 to go.

That was as close as ONU would get, as JCU built the lead to as high as 14 points with 3:23 remaining in the game.

JCU's Laura Gruber came off the bench to score a team-high 16 points, while Jennings was the only other Blue Streak in double figures with 10.

Ohio Northern will return to action on Wednesday as it hosts Wilmington at 7:30 pm in the ONU Sports Center.
