ADA – The Ohio Northern men’s soccer team earned its first conference shutout of the season as it defeated Mount Union 1-0 Saturday afternoon at the ONU Soccer Field.
The Polar Bears improve to 9-3-1 overall and 3-0-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference while the Purple Raiders move to 7-5-1 overall and 0-2-1 in the conference.
ONU is 3-0-0 in conference play for the first time since the 2000 season.
Senior defender Dan Schade scored the game’s only goal at the 54:22 mark by gathering a loose ball on the left side of the box, and beating the goalkeeper far post.
The goal is the third of his career.
Freshman Mac Church earned his sixth shutout of the season.
Ohio Northern out shot the Purple Raiders by a 21-9 count.
“I want to congratulate our keeper and defense for earning our first shutout in OAC play this year,” ONU head coach Brent Ridenour said. “Today was an important conference win because Mount Union is a tough and very good defensive team.”
The Polar Bears have an important match up on Wednesday as they travel to Baldwin-Wallace for a 7 pm match. The two teams are the only two still undefeated in the OAC.
