ADA — Senior Ryan Smith (Miamisburg) and junior Chris Corrado (Cincinnati/Saint Xavier) were named Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference in men’s soccer for 2008 in voting conducted by the league’s 10 faculty advisors.

Smith was also named First Team All-OAC and OAC Defender of the Year earlier this season.

A biology/pre-med major, Smith is anchoring the ONU defense from the center back position that has allowed only 18 goals all season while dishing out two assists as well.

He is now a three-time Academic All-OAC honoree.

Smith is a three-time First Team All-OAC honoree and the second time that he has been named OAC Defender of the Year.

Corrado, a midfielder, is now a two-time Academic All-OAC honoree, earning Honorable Mention Academic All-OAC pick in 2007.

He has played in all 25 matches and has four starts to his credit this season.

This season he has four assists. In his career, Corrado has 13 points on three goals and seven assists.

The Polar Bears stand at 19-5-1 on the season and will compete in the NCAA Division III Sectional Tournament Saturday-Sunday at Loras (Iowa) in Dubuque, Iowa.

Ohio Northern will face No. 4-ranked Hobart (N.Y.) Saturday night at 6 pm Eastern Standard Time in a Sweet 16 matchup.

With a victory, the Polar Bears would advance to the Sectional Finals and an Elite 8 contest against either No. 21 Loras (Iowa) or Augsburg (Minn.)

Ohio Northern won the OAC Tournament title for the second time in the past three seasons.
