Rinehart scores career-high 30, but Women's Basketball can't overcome 21-point halftime deficit against Heidelberg

ADA – Alisha Rinehart scored a career-high 30 points, but the Ohio Northern women's basketball team could not overcome Heidelberg’s 13 buckets from beyond the arc, as ONU lost Thursday night 70-65 at the ONU Sports Center.
The Polar Bears fall to 8-10 (6-5 Ohio Athletic Conference) on the season as the Student Princes improve to 5-13 (2-9 OAC).
Heidelberg’s Morgan Harrigan and Stacey Barker combined for nine 3-pointers and 27 points in the first half to build a 47-26 lead over Ohio Northern.
Northern shot 2-of-16 (12.5%) in the first ten minutes of the game as Heidelberg gained an early 26-8 lead.
The Polar Bears went on a 17-2 run, led by Megan Porter with two 3-point field goals, to start the second half and brought the deficit to six points at 49-43.
The Student Princes didn’t give in as they went on an 8-0 run of their own with 6:35 left in regulation to bring the score to 60-48.
Northern pulled within five points with 42 seconds left but could not overcome the first half deficit.
Rinehart’s 30 points led the Polar Bears on the day, while shooting 14-of-15 from the line.
Kara Dysert was the second leading scorer with 10 points and five boards.
Porter had seven points and three steals, while senior Emily Culbertson led the team with four steals.
The Student Princes had three players in double digits led by Harrigan, who made all of her 18 points in the first half off of six 3-point field goals.
Senior Brittany Skolnicki scored 14 points on the night, and Stacey Barker had 12 points.
Jenny Miller led Heidelberg with nine rebounds and still registered eight points.
Northern will return to action this Saturday at 3pm as they travel to Baldwin-Wallace.
