ADA - Senior Angie Pisut recorded her second career hat trick to help lead the No. 23-ranked Ohio Northern women's soccer team to a 10-2 victory over Muskingum in the team's first Ohio Athletic Conference contest Saturday afternoon at the ONU Soccer Field.

With the win Ohio Northern improves its record to 7-2-2 (1-0-0 OAC) while Muskingum drops to 4-7-0 (0-1-0 OAC).

Senior Jamie Eiben scored the first two goals of the game at the 3:31 and 5:19 marks. The two goals bring Eiben’s total to five on the season.

Pisut’s first goal came at 9:09 off a through ball from Kaitlin Sanders.

Her next goal was unassisted at the 18:23 mark when she forced a turnover and beat Muskingum keeper Carrie Puckett, and her final goal came two minutes later as Natalie White crossed a ball to her across the center of the field.

Pisut’s three goals give her 10 on the year and 31 for career, which is ninth on ONU's all-time list. Her only other hat trick came against Ohio Wesleyan as a sophomore on September 5, 2007.

Junior Chelsea Albert had an unassisted goal in between Pisut’s goals at the 12:28 mark as she rocketed a shot from the left side of the box for her second goal of the season.

Kim McGowan continued the scoring at 21:19 as she took a cross in the middle of the box from sophomore Christina Spinaris to punch in her third goal of the season.

Sophomore Alyssa Merrick rounded out the first half scoring, as she took a free kick from 40 yards out that sailed in for her first goal of the season.

Northern scored eight goals in the first half.

The scoring continued in the second half as Merrick sent a through ball to freshman Madeline White who went one-on-one with the keeper and beat her for her third goal of the season.

Fellow freshman Alicia Palivoda also scored her third goal of the season as Therese Scalzitti passed her a through ball which Palivoda used to beat Puckett.

Muskingum scored two goals in the final ten minutes from Nicki Sharrock and Christy Brady to foil ONU's shutout bid.

“It was a good way to start off conference play,” said head coach Mark Batman. “A lot of players gained some valuable experience out there which can only help us down the line.”

The Polar Bears return to action on Wednesday, October 7 as the travel to Capital for a 4 pm game.
