Pisut, Eiben lead Women's Soccer to 7-0 victory over Defiance in season opener

ADA ­­—Seniors Angie Pisut and Jamie Eiben each scored twice and added two assists to lead the Ohio Northern women’s soccer team to a 7-0 victory over Defiance on Tuesday in the 2009 season opener at the ONU Soccer Field. 

The Polar Bears improve to 1-0 as the Yellow Jackets slip to 0-1.

Pisut and Eiben each had two goals and assisted on the other’s two goals as ONU built a 5-0 lead. They combined to score four of the Polar Bears’ seven goals.

Eiben opened the scoring at the 4:39 mark off the first half by knocking a header in off of Pisut’s crossing pass.

Pisut then scored on a breakaway which was set up by a beautiful through ball from Eiben.

Sophomore Kim McGowan scored an unassisted goal by kicking in a loose ball in front of the net at the 41:47 mark that rounded out the scoring in the first half.

The Polar Bears came out strong in the second half, scoring four goals by Eiben, Pisut, freshmen Madeline White, and Alicia Palivoda.

Pisut scored her second goal of the game off a crossing pass from Eiben at 49:49.

Pisut then returned the favor by making a centering pass to Eiben who knocked in the goal at the 65:48 mark.   

Freshmen Tara Tokar had a strong debut as she recorded two assists in the second half. The first assist was a centering pass to fellow freshmen Madeline White who scored the first goal of her career at the 72:17 mark.         

Tokar’s other assist went to another freshmen, Alicia Palivoda, who headed in the first goal of her career and the final goal of the game at the 85:58 mark.

Defiance goalkeeper Kelly Coble had 18 saves.

ONU outshot Defiance 46-3 and had ten coner kicks compared to only two for the Yellow Jackets.      

The Polar Bears return to action this Friday at 4 pm as they take on Kalamazoo (Mich.) in the ONU Classic at the ONU Soccer Field.
