ADA — Otterbein sophomore midfielder Byron Horton scored in the 24th minute to lead the Cardinals past the Ohio Northern men’s soccer team 1-0 at the ONU Soccer Field Saturday afternoon.

Ohio Northern moves to 13-4-1 and 4-2-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference on the year, while Otterbein improves to 7-6-2 overall and 4-3 in the league.

At 23:52, an Ohio Northern defender headed the ball away from the net only to have Horton get the rebound and fire a shot into the back of the net for his team-leading sixth goal of the season.

After an injury to Otterbein’s starting goalkeeper, freshman Alex Kamphaus stepped in to preserve the win as he made seven saves in the game.

Although outscored in the game, ONU outshot the Cardinals 23-12 and had an 11-2 advantage in corner kicks.

“Otterbein came to play today,” ONU coach Brent Ridenour said. “They gave it 100 percent against us today. We played hard but were just unable to pull it out.”

The Polar Bears will be on the road Tuesday as they travel to Wilmington to play a 7 pm match.
