Ohio Northern tops Baldwin-Wallace 5-1 in finals of OAC Women's Tennis Tournament

MASON -- Top-seeded Ohio Northern defeated No. 2 seed Baldwin-Wallace 5-1 Saturday afternoon in the championship match of the 2009 Ohio Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Tournament at the Lindner Tennis Center.

The Polar Bears (20-5) won the tournament title after finishing runner-up in each of the last three OAC Tournaments.

Northern earns the OAC's automatic bid to the NCAA III Tournament. Tournament sites and pairings will announced on Monday.

BW ends its season with a 13-11 record.

Northern took a 3-0 lead by sweeping the doubles play.

Liz Bajusz and Jacqueline Sammon defeated Caitlyn Pecinovsky and Katy Marshall 8-5 at No. 1 singles to make it 1-0 Polar Bears.

Kaitlyn Macdonald and BridgetLarson then defeated Alyssa Trampert and Jennifer Greene 8-2 at No. 2 and Katie Gibbs and Jacki Hillis defeated Andrea Essig and Emily Pelosi 8-6 at No. 3doubles.

BW pulled within 3-1 when Pecinovsky knocked off Macdonald 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 singles.

Northern won the match when Larson topped Essig 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3 singles and Hillis defeated Marshall 7-5, 6-1 at No. 6 singles.
