Ohio Northern senior Katie Weininger named ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America

ADA — Ohio Northern senior Katie Weininger (Sycamore/Mohawk) was named ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Third Team Academic All-America in volleyball for 2008 in voting conducted by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Weininger has been an outstanding all-around performer, dishing out 1,421 assists with 253 digs and 1887 kills this season.

She ended her career ranked on ONU’s all-time assists list with 4,680 after only setting three seasons.

Her season .356 hitting percentage ranks her fourth in the Ohio Athletic Conference.

At 11.10 assists per set, she ranks fourth in the country and has led the Polar Bears to 12.93 assists per set as a team, which is the nation’s top number.

Weininger was the only setter selected First Team All-America.

She has also been named AVCA First Team All-America, AVCA First Team All-Great Lakes Region, Ohio Athletic Conference Co-Player of the Year, First Team Academic All-District IV and First Team Academic All-OAC this season.

Weininger helped guide the Polar Bears to a 34-5 record, a trip to the NCAA III Tournament Final Four, a NCAA III Tournament Great Lakes Regional title, the OAC Tournament title and their eighth consecutive OAC Regular Season crown.
