ADA — Ohio Northern freshman Sarah Fiffick (Strongsville) was named the Ohio Athletic Conference Women’s Swimmer of the Week for the week of Jan. 26-Feb. 1.

Fiffick had a solid night for the Polar Bears in a 150-112 victory at Notre Dame (Ohio).

She won the 100 free in :56.04 and narrowly missed a win in the 200 free, finishing second in 2:01.65, just 33 hundredths of a second behind the leader.

On Saturday, Fiffick finished second in the 200 free in 2:02.52, and was second in the 100 free in :56.29 at Case Western Reserve.

This marks the fourth time this season that an Ohio Northern swimmer was named the OAC Swimmer of the Week, as sophomore Hannah Bukowy won the honor on Dec. 8, junior Terri Lynn Shigle won the award on Nov. 24 and freshman Michelle Eggers was named on Nov. 17.

The Polar Bears will be idle until the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships Feb. 19-21 at the University of Akron.

Ohio Northern will be looking for its third OAC title in the last four years in 2009.
