No. 8 Volleyball advances to OAC Tournament Semifinals with victory over Otterbein

ADA - The No. 8 ranked Ohio Northern volleyball team advanced to the Ohio Athletic Conference Semifinals as the top seed with a 25-18, 25-15, 25-19 victory over No. 8-seed Otterbein Tuesday evening at the ONU Sports Center.

The Polar Bears are now 28-4 on the season, while the Cardinals end the year 9-23.

Northern controlled the first two sets by jumping out to early leads and both and using the momentum to finish and go up 2-0.

The Cardinals played much better in the third set and had a lead as late as 13-12.

With Set 3 14-14, ONU scored seven in a row to take a 21-14 advantage before OC battled back to make it a 21-19 score.

The Polar Bears then scored four in a row to close out the match and advance to the next round.

Junior Sharon Guzik helped spark the comeback in Set 3 with four kills on just seven attempts, while fellow junior Lindsey Pruneski also collected four kills in the set and teamed with junior Renee Berry for the match-ending block.

Junior Liz Schnelle had a game-high nine kills and four total blocks for ONU.

Senior Katie Weininger hit .500 with five kills on 10 attempts while dishing out 14 assists in just two sets.

Freshman Kasey Roeser led the defense with 17 digs and tied a career-high with four aces.

Northern will host the OAC Tournament Semifinals on Friday at 5 pm and 7 pm and the Finals on Saturday at 2 pm. The Polar Bears will play in the 7 pm match on Friday night.
