No. 5 Volleyball picks up three-set victory at Muskingum

NEW CONCORD - The No. 5 Ohio Northern volleyball team used an excellent blocking performance to defeat Muskingum 25-19, 25-19, 25-14 Saturday afternoon at the Muskingum Recreation Center.
ONU improves to 22-2 on the year and 4-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while MU is now 10-11, 2-3.
The Polar Bears had nine total blocks to tie a season high and three solo blocks to set a season high.
Lindsey Pruneski led the blocking spree with a career-high three solo blocks. She also chipped in six kills on 15 attempts without an error (.400%).
Renee Berry also had three blocks with two solo blocks and a block assist.
Berry again performed well all-around with a .400 hitting percentage (8-0-20) and 15 digs.
Liz Schnelle led the offense with 14 kills and added five digs, two total blocks and an ace.
Schnelle now has 2,021 kills for her career and is just five kills away from tying Capital's Nici Workman for the most kills in OAC history.
Kasey Roeser also made some progress in the ONU record books with 25 digs in the match.
She moved into eighth place all-time with 1,192 digs for her career and is now 53 away from tying Jill Dolan for seventh place.
Kelly Smerekanich tied a career best with 30 assists in the victory, while also recording a career-high seven digs.
Ohio Northen will be in action again on Tuesday when it hosts Wilmington at 7 pm at the ONU Sports Center.
