WILMINGTON - The No. 24 ranked Ohio Northern women’s soccer team kept pace in the tight Ohio Athletic Conference race thanks to goals by freshman Lindsay Gilchrist and junior Natalie White, leading ONU to a 2-1 victory over Wilmington on Tuesday night.

With the win, Ohio Northern improves to 13-3-2 overall and 7-1 in the OAC, while Wilmington drops to 10-5-2 overall and 5-3 in the OAC.

The Polar Bears remain one point out of first place in the OAC after Otterbein defeated Muskingum 4-0 earlier on Tuesday.

Gilchrist started the scoring early in the second half as she took a corner kick from senior Kaitlin Sanders and pushed it past Wilmington keeper Maria Larson for her first goal of the season.

The assist gives Sanders 12 on the season and 38 in her career, which is second most in ONU history.

White scored at the 63:08 mark as she was able to take a through ball from senior Jaime Eiben and score her third goal of the season.

Eiben now has six assists on the season, which is second most on the team behind Sanders.

Northern keeper Kristen DeWees made three saves bringing her season total to 45.

She lost the shutout in the 76th minute when Wilmington’s Kimberly Hill was able to get a shot past her.

DeWees has only given up 11 goals this season for an average of 0.64 goals per game.

Northern returns to action on Friday as it travel to Marietta for a 4 pm game to finish off their OAC regular season schedule.

A win over Marietta will guarantee at least the second seed and a first-round bye in the OAC Tournament. If the Polar Bears win on Friday and Otterbein either ties with or loses to Capital on Saturday, Northern will be OAC Regular Season Champions.
