No. 13 Men's Outdoor Track & Field finishes 2nd of 10 at Kenyon Invitational

GAMBIER — Junior Tony Thomas and sophomore Tim Polack each posted three top-5 finishes to lead the No. 13-ranked Ohio Northern men's outdoor track & field team to a second place finish at the Kenyon Invitational on Saturday.

The Polar Bears (52-2) finished with 128 points, trailing only Ohio Wesleyan, who had 154 points. Heidelberg was third with 101 and Otterbein was fourth with 67.

Thomas was one of six Polar Bears to post second place finishes, as he was runner-up in the discus with a heave of 40.28 meters. He was also fourth in the shot at 13.32 meters and was fifth in the hammer with a distance of 36.31 meters.

Polack tied for second in the high jump by clearing 1.88 meters. He also finished fifth in the 110 hurdles in :16.45 and was fifth in the javelin with a toss of 40.28 meters.

Senior Justin Linzy was second in the 100-meter dash in 11.24 and was third in the 200 in :23.11.

Sophomore Ryan Fleming was second in the 200 in :22.72.

Freshman Dan Smith was second in the 800 run in 1:57.35.

Junior Paul Metzner led four ONU placers in the pole vault, finishing second with a height of 4.27 meters. Senior Jared Kaufman was third (4.12 meters), junior Scott Underwood was fifth (3.97) and junior David Walters was eighth (3.97).

Ohio Northern swept the relays, winning the 4x100 relay in :42.10 and winning the 4x400 relay in 3:20.20.

The Polar Bears will return to action next Friday and Saturday with the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships at Wilmington.
