Nick Kowalczyk named OAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week

ADA — Ohio Northern freshman Nick Kowalczyk (Franklin) was named the Ohio Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week for the week of April 20-26.

Kowalczyk went 3-0 at No. 2 singles and was 3-0 at No. 1 doubles to lead the Polar Bears to victories over Tiffin, Wilmington and Marietta last week.

This season, Kowalczyk leads the Polar Bears with a 14-6 singles record and is second on the squad with a 15-9 doubles mark.

This marks the second consecutive week that an Ohio Northern player has won the award, as Ryan Paul received the honor last week.

Ohio Northern finished the 2009 regular season with a 12-5 record and is the No. 2 seed in this week's OAC Tournament, finishing at7-2 in league play.

Northern will be looking for its third consecutive OAC Tournament title this week, when the Polar Bears host seventh-seeded Otterbein in the quarterfinal round on Tuesday at 3:30 pm at the ONU Sports Center.

The semifinals and finales are slated for May 1-2 at the Lindner Tennis Center in Mason.
