Men's Tennis holds off Northwestern Ohio for 5-4 victory

Ada — Ohio Northern built a 4-1 lead and held on for a 5-4 men's tennis victory over area-rival Northwestern Ohio Tuesday afternoon at University Courts.

The Polar Bears improve to 1-0 and the Racers fall to 2-2.

ONU freshman Andrew Korba won the deciding match after UNO had rallied from a 4-0 deficit to tie the match at 4-4.

Korba led 6-4, 5-0 before Chris Cash rallied to win the second set 7-6(5). Korba then won the third set 6-3 to give the Polar Bears the victory.

ONU won two of the three doubles matches as Jay Vaidya and Jeff Carter won at No. 2 and Matt Dutro and Nick Kowalczyk won at No. 3 doubles.

Kowalczyk won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles and Vaidya won 6-1, 6-4 at No. 5 singles to put ONU up 4-1.

But UNO's Jeff Brown won 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1 singles, Evan Carr won 6-2, 6-4 at No. 4 singles and Juan Cardenas came from behind to win 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles to tied the match at 4-4.

Ohio Northern will wrap up its fall schedule next weekend at the ITA Regionals at Saint Louis, Mo.
