Men's Swimming & Diving breaks 4 more school records, 3 more league marks on Day 2 of OAC Championships

AKRON — The Ohio Northern Men’s swimming and diving team set three OAC records, broke four school records and extended its lead on Day 2 of the three-day Ohio Athletic Conference Championships at the Ocasek Natatorium at the University of Akron Thursday night.
The Polar Bears are on the verge of clinching their fifth straight OAC Championships title and leads after two of three days with 196 points, followed by John Carroll with 133.
Garrett Dauch won the 100 butterfly in 50.95, breaking his own conference mark of 51.34 set in the preliminaries. He also broke the school record of 52.36 in the preliminaries and bettered his record in the finals.
Dauch also placed third in the 100 backstroke in 54.44 earning All-Conference honors for the second time in this event. In the preliminaries, Dauch broke the OAC record of 54.05 and the school record of 54.13 with a time of 53.90.
In the 200 freestyle, Micheal Schultz won 1:40.79, Brett Kuhn took second in 143.27, and Anders Samuelson finished third in 1:44.61. In the preliminaries they all broke the previous school mark of 1:45.98.
Schultz's time of 1:40.16 broke the OAC mark of 1:43.16 and he now holds the school record. He surpassed the NCAA “B” cut of 1:42.85 with his time.
Kuhn placed second in the 200 freestyle giving him All-Conference honors for fourth time in this event.
George Chesney won the 3-meter diving with 484.35 points breaking his previous school record of 474.05. Chesney has won the 3-meter two consecutive years.
In the 800 freestyle relay Anders Samuelson,
Ryan Bender, Schultz, and Kuhn teamed together to break the conference
championship mark of 6:59.56 and shattered the school record of 7:13.39
with a winning time of 6:52.55. Northern has now won the 800 free relay three consecutive years.
With this victory Kuhn now has a school-record 14 OAC Championships titles in his career.
Jeb Deal won the 100 breaststroke in 59.95 giving him All-Conference honors for the second time in the 100 breaststroke.
Dan Henry finished third in the 400 individual medley in 4:21.10 to earn All-Conference honors for the second time in the event.
Bender touched third in the 100 butterfly in 52.71 to earn All-Conference honors.
The Polar Bears will look to wrap up their fifth straight OAC Championships title on Saturday with preliminaries at 11 am and finals at 6 pm at the Ocasek Natatorium.
