Men's Soccer team and athletes earn NSCAA postseason awards

ADA — The Ohio Northern men’s soccer team received academic team and individual performance awards from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

For the third time in the program’s history, the team earned the NSCAA Team Academic Award for the 2008-09 academic year with a 3.15 GPA.

The award is given to teams who posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher in the academic year.

Three players were also named to the 2009 NSCAA Men's NCAA Division III All-Great Lakes Region teams.

Senior forward Dan Schade and junior Dan Otanicar earned Second Team honors, while sophomore forward Christian Huelsman earned a Third Team honor as well.

Schade had one goal and six assists for eight points this season while also earning Ohio Athletic Conference Co-Defender of the Year and First Team All-OAC honors.

Otanicar scored nine goals and dished out four assists for 22 points in an injury-shortened season. He has also received Academic All-OAC and First Team All-OAC honors.

Huelsman had a team-high 14 goals and 33 points along with five assists this season. He was also named to the All-OAC Second Team.
