Men's Soccer puts on strong offensive performance in home-opening victory over Adrian (Mich.)

ADA -- The Ohio Northern men’s soccer team shutout Adrian (Mich.) 7-0 Wednesday night in its first game at the ONU Soccer Field this season as freshman Nate Bascom scored a game-high two goals to lead Northern.
The Polar Bears remain undefeated as they better their record to 4-0 while the Bulldogs fall to 1-3.
Ohio Northern’s first goal came from junior Dan Otanicar as he received an assist from senior Colin Schroeder and freshman Christian Huelsman with 27:23 left in the first half. The goal was Otanicar’s second of the season.
Freshman Cory Dobkins netted his second of the year in the 25th minute as his shot went off of the goalkeeper’s hands.
In the 29th minute, Bascom finished the first half scoring for ONU when he scored from senior Geoff Smith’s pass to give ONU a 3-0 lead heading into halftime.
Bascom also added an unassisted goal with 41:42 left in the second half, his fourth of the season.
In the 59th minute, Huelsman earned his third goal of the season as he put in a rebound off of an Adam Ross shot to put Ohio Northern up 5-0.
Junior Chris Corado assisted Smith as he went on to beat the goalkeeper to earn his second goal of the season with 18:46 left in the contest.
The final goal came from freshman Greg Stawicki in the 88th minute in a play similiar to Smith’s as he received an assist from sophomore Chaz McCullah and once again beat the goalie to earn his first collegiate goal.
Ohio Northern will host the ONU-ADIDAS Classic on Friday and Saturday at the ONU Soccer Field. The Polar Bear’s first match is against Manchester (Ind.) at 3 pm. They will then host Allegheny (Pa.) Saturday at 3 pm.
