ADA — After claiming the Ohio Athletic Conference Regular Season championship last week, the Ohio Northern men's soccer team moved up five spots to No. 20 in the ninth weekly National Soccer Coaches Association of America/Adidas Division III Men's Soccer Poll.
This is the third week that the Polar Bears (14-3-2 overall, 8-0-1 Ohio Athletic Conference) have been ranked in the poll after being No. 25 last week and No. 21 in the first poll.
Northern was also ranked in the NSCAA preseason poll at No. 11, the same position in which the Polar Bears finished the 2008 season.
The Polar Bears completed an undefeated OAC regular season to earn their fourth OAC Regular Season Championship in the program's history.
Northern defeated Wilmington at home last Wednesday 2-1 before beating Marietta on the road 2-1 on Saturday.
Ohio Wesleyan is ranked No. 1 for the second consecutive week with a 17-0-2 record, while Messiah (Pa.) and Loras (Iowa) also held their positions at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively.
OWU defeated the Polar Bears 5-0 earlier in the year.
Ohio Northern and Ohio Wesleyan are two of three ranked teams from the Great Lakes Region, as Carnegie Mellon (Pa.) is No. 11.
The Polar Bears take the No. 1 seed into this week's OAC Tournament and will look to win the tournament title for the second consecutive season.
Northern will host an OAC Tournament semifinal games on Thursday at 2 pm against the winner of No. 4 Heidelberg and No. 5 Marietta.
