Men's Soccer blanks Trine (Ind.) 3-0 to win OAC-MIAA Shootout

ADA – The Ohio Northern men’s soccer team completed a record-breaking weekend by defeating Trine (Ind.) 3-0 Saturday afternoon at the ONU Soccer Field to win its fifth OAC-MIAA Shootout.
The Polar Bears broke Shootout records for goals in a game with seven on Friday and with the three goals Saturday, the Shootout record for goals now stands at 10.
ONU is now 5-2-1 overall this season while the Thunder fall to 3-4 overall.
Following a Thunder foul, the Polar Bears sent a ball into the middle of the box. After the ball bounced around for a while, sophomore forward Christian Huelsman sent it into the back of the net for his fifth goal of the season and give ONU a 1-0 at the 29:27 mark.
Shortly after that at the 35:50 mark, sophomore Cory Dobkins sent a through ball up the field to fellow sophomore Greg Stawicki who beat the keeper one-on-one for a 2-0 Polar Bear advantage.
The final goal of the game came at the 42:27 mark when Stawicki beat the goalkeeper at the top of the box and tapped the ball into an empty goal for his fourth goal of the season.
Freshman Mac Church and sophomore Mike Girardot combined for the shutout, which is the fourth shutout of the season for Ohio Northern.
ONU out shot Trine (Ind.) 20-14 in the match.
“I am really pleased with the two shutouts we had this weekend,” ONU head coach Brent Ridenour said. “One of our goals this season was to win this weekend and I am happy that we were able to do so.”
Ohio Northern hosts the number three team in the nation in Ohio Wesleyan on Wednesday at 4 pm at the ONU Soccer Field.
