ADA - Despite outshooting John Carroll 31-8, the Ohio Northern men’s soccer team played to a 2-2 tie at home at the ONU Soccer Field Saturday afternoon in the Ohio Athletic Conference contest.

The Polar Bears are now 10-3-2 overall and 4-0-1 in the OAC, while the Blue Streaks move to 6-5-5 overall and 0-2-3 in conference action.

ONU senior forward Jimmy Matuszak gave his team a 1-0 lead at the 6:59 mark in the first half as he received the ball from defenders Dan Schade and Dustin Conner and sent the ball into the back of the net from a few yards away.

John Carroll’s Corey Rider answered right back with a goal at the 11:19 mark as he headed a Kyle Buxman cross in the middle of the box on a counter attack.

The Polar Bears then took the lead right back at the 21:15 mark when freshman Cameron Johnson received a centering pass from Matuszak and one-timed it into the goal.

JCU tied it up yet again at 2-2 as Buxman received a pass from Rider on a through ball and proceeded to score his third goal of the season.

“Today was a close and physical OAC match,” ONU head coach Brent Ridenour said. “Both teams played hard for the entire time as neither team was able to score on the other in the second half or overtime.”

The Polar Bears travel to Tiffin on Tuesday to take on Heidelberg at 7 pm.
