Men's Cross Country teams defeats Youngstown State, Buffalo at Akron invitational

AKRON — Ohio Northern men’s cross country defeated NCAA Division I schools Buffalo and Youngstown State to finish third in the 4-mile run at the Tommy Evans Invitational at University of Akron on Saturday.

The Polar Bears (2-2) finished third with 84 points in the field made up entirely of NCAA Division I schools.

Northern's 84 points was good enough to tie Buffalo with 84 points and defeat Youngstown State, who was fifth with 110 points.

ONU defeated Buffalo on the sixth-man tiebreaker.

Kent State finished in the top spot with 18 points, while Akron finished second with 72 points.

The Polar Bears finished behind a top-ten finish from senior Alan Bowsher, who finished eighth out of 65 runners in 20:39.

Seniors Justin Dickman and Brent Hiser finished in 12th and 15th, respectively, in times of 21:00 and 21:20.

Junior Jacob Schoenlein finished fourth for ONU and was 22nd overall in 21:36.

Sophomores Nick Baker and Nick Swinford finished out the scoring for Ohio Northern.

Baker finished 27th in a time of 21:45 and Swinford placed 28th in a time of 21:47.

The Polar Bears will return to action next Saturday, September 12, at the Bowling Green Invitational.
