Men’s Swimming & Diving wins all swimming events to clinch 4th straight OAC Regular Season Title

BEREA - The Ohio Northern University men’s swimming and diving team defeated Baldwin-Wallace 176-66 to win the team’s fourth consecutive Ohio Athletic Conference Regular Season title at the B-W Natatorium on Saturday afternoon.

The victory marks the sixth straight year Ohio Northern has won either the OAC Championships or Regular Season title, as well as the second straight year the Polar Bears have won the Golden Kickboard trophy, giving them a 4-2 advantage in the contest held annually between the two schools.

Ohio Northern completes their OAC schedule with a perfect 4-0 record (8-1 overall), while the Yellow Jackets fall to 1-2 in the OAC (3-9 overall).

The Polar Bears won all eleven swimming events, including two wins each from junior Michael Schultz, sophomore Anders Samuelson and freshman Andrew Keriazes.

Schultz won both the 200 and 500 free, finishing first in times of 1:46.46 and 4:46.23, respectively.

Samuelson’s first victory came in the 50 free in 22.70. He followed that win by touching first in the 100 free in 50.08.

In the 200 IM, Keriazes led the way in 2:07.18. His second win came in the 100 breast with a time of 1:02.69.

The Polar Bears also received wins from junior Casey Davis, sophomore Ryan Bender, and freshman Max McClary.

Davis dominated the 1000 free by winning in 10:46.28, more than eight seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.

Bender’s win came in the 100 fly as he posted a time of 55.59.

McClary edged out a victory in the 100 back. His time of 59.92 beat sophomore teammate Joey Bechtel by just .08 seconds.

The Polar Bears will be back in action Friday as they take on non-conference opponent Notre Dame (Ohio) at the ONU Sports Center on Friday at 6 pm.
