ADA - Senior All-American Liz Schnelle became the Ohio Athletic Conference's most prolific offensive threat by becoming the conference's all-time kills leaders Tuesday night in the No. 5 Ohio Northern volleyball team's 3-0 victory over Wilmington at the ONU Sports Center.

With the win, Ohio Northern is now 23-2 overall and 5-1 in the OAC, while Wilmington is now 1-15, 0-6.

Schnelle had seven kills on the evening to give her 2,028 for her career, surpassing Capital's Nici Workman who had 2,026 kills as a Crusader from 2000-03.

The record-breaking 2,027th kill came in Set 2 on an assist from fellow senior Renee Berry.

Schnelle claimed the title of ONU all-time kills leader earlier in the season and now has 240 more kills than Hannah Kanuckel who is in second place and played from 2001-04.

The Polar Bears defeated the Quakers 25-11, 25-13, 25-23.

Tough serving allowed Ohio Northern to keep control for most of the match, recording 11 aces with only three serving errors.

Senior Lindsey Pruneski had a career night against the Quakers and led the Polar Bears with a career-high 10 kills with only one error on 14 attempts (.643%).

Junior setter Kelly Smerekanich also set career highs with 33 assists and three service aces.

Berry had seven kills on the night, and junior Abby Schaller had six kills and a .556 hitting percentage (6-1-9).

Sophomore libero Kasey Roeser led the defense by being the only Polar Bear in double figures with 21 digs.

Ohio Northern will travel to Mount Union on Saturday at 1 pm in a match that will help break a three-way tie for second place in the OAC. ONU, Mount Union and Capital all have 5-1 records so far in the OAC.
