Kyle Meyer named MVP as Men's Basketball wins Mt St Joseph Invitational title

CINCINNATI --  Junior Kyle Meyer scored 23 points and earned tournament MVP honors, leading the Ohio Northern men's basketball team to an 81-70 victory over Mount Saint Joseph in the championship game of the Mount Saint Joseph Invitational Saturday night at the Harrington Center.

The Polar Bears improve to 2-0, while the Lions fall to 2-1.

Meyer and junior Ezra Bradshaw were named to the All-Tournament team.

Seniro Kurtis Brown added 19 points for Ohio Northern.

MSJ was led by Mitchell Goldschmidt with 18 points, Robert Walker with 15 points and Michael Romes with 14 points.

ONU used a 10-2 run midway through the first half tio turn an 18-18 tie into a 28-20 advantage with 9:51 remaining in the opening stanza.

The Polar Bears led 43-34 at halftime and extended that lead to as many as 74-58 with 4:59 left in the game.

ONU made 30 of 48 of its field goal attempts for 62.5 percent, while MSJ made 23 of 50 for 46.0 percent.

Jake Cannan had six caroms as the Polar Bear won the rebounding battle 29-24.

Ohio Northern will next compete at the DePauw (Ind.) Invitational Nov. 29-30.
