Kowalczyk, Barnaba lead Men's Tennis to 5th place finish at Wabash (Ind.) Tournament

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. -- The Ohio Northern men’s tennis team placed fifth out of eight teams at the Kerry Seward Invitational at the Collett Tennis Center at Wabash (Ind.) Saturday and Sunday.
Freshman Nick Kowalczyk and sophomore Kyle Barnaba were the top performers for the Polar Bears this weekend as each were runners-up in their respective brackets.
Kowalczyk was placed second at No. 2 singles and Barnaba was second at No. 6 singles.
The duo of freshman Matt Dutro and senior Jay Vaidya placed third in the number three doubles bracket by winning on Sunday 8-2.
Senior Chris Dohner and sophomore Jeff Carter each placed fourth in singles action at Nos. 3 and 6 singles, respectively.
Ohio Northern’s first and second doubles teams both finished fifth on the weekend.
In number one doubles, Kowalczyk and senior Ryan Paul lost on Sunday to finish fifth while Carter and Dohner lost 8-6 in number two doubles action.
In number five singles play, Vaidya lost on Sunday 7-6 (7-1) 6-0 to place sixth in his bracket.
Paul won 6-1, 6-2 on Sunday to place seventh in the tournament.
The Polar Bears return to action on Monday as they host Bluffton at 3:30 pm in a non-conference match.
