ADA -- Kaitlin Sanders had three assists to lead the Ohio Northern women’s soccer team to a 4-1 victory over Kalamazoo (Mich.) Friday afternoon at the ONU Soccer Field.

The Polar Bears remain undefeated on the 2009 season with a 2-0 record, while Kalamazoo falls to 0-1.

Both teams only had 11 shots, but Northern was able to covert four of those shots into goals, with Sanders passes as a major catalyst.

Sanders’ first assist came at the 9:19 mark in the first half when she made a pass to fellow senior Angie Pisut, who rocketed a shot from the top of the box past the keeper.

Sophomore Chelsea Chadwick earned her first goal of the season four minutes later when she took a Chelsea Albert pass and made a beautiful shot from the right corner.

Sophomore Kim McGowan capped off the scoring in the first half when she took another pass from Sanders and shot it in. The goal is McGowan’s second in as many games.

The Polar Bears final goal came at the 67:17 mark when senior defender Stacey Barnhart headed in a beautiful corner kick that came from Sanders. The goal gave Barnhart her second career goal.

Sanders’ three assists was one shy of the single game record of four set by Amy Cormier in 1991.

Maggie Rogers scored Kalamazoo’s lone goal at the 15:08 mark when she was able to get a loose ball past keeper Kristen Dewees.

The first match of the ONU Classic featured two ranked teams colliding as #17 Calvin (Mich.) defeated #7 Otterbein 3-0.

Calvin’s Jillian Honderd came off the bench to score two unassisted goals off a rebound and a breakaway respectively. Carly Prins opened the scoring for Calvin as her shot from the left side of the field got past Otterbein keeper Tara Carter.

Calvin’s Kayla Sulzer made three saves while earning the shutout.

The ONU Classic resumes Saturday at the ONU Soccer Field as #7 Otterbein takes on Kalamazoo at 1 pm and the Polar Bears return to action at 4 pm as they take on # 17 Calvin.
