Jeff Penny, Luke Miller, place to lead Wrestling at Pete Willson Invitational

WHEATON, Ill. --  Jeff Penny and Luke Miller each placed in their respective weight classes to lead the Ohio Northern wrestling team at the Pete Willson Invitational at Wheaton College Friday and Saturday.

Seventh-seeded Jeff Penny placed fifth at the 133-pound weight class to post the highest finish for the Polar Bears.

Penny won by decision over Brandon Kircher of Wisconsin-Platteville, pinned Rob Frias of Lakeland in 1:23 and won by decision over Adam Wilson of Olivet to reach the fifth place match. He then won by decision 6-4 over Kurt Kemnitz of Concordia (Wis.) for fifth place Saturday afternoon to finish 4-2 for the weekend.

Miller, the No. 4 seed at 157 pounds, placed seventh with 4-2 record. He won by tech. fall 16-0 over Ryan Monce of Manchester, won by major decision 9-0 over Corey Fornal of Indianapolis, won by major decision 12-0 over Bryan Skoff of Mount Union to reach the seventh place match.

He then won by tech. fall 19-2 over Cowan Brown of North Central. 

Matt Alexander and Billy Painter each reached the consolation quarterfinals in the 31-team tournament.

Alexander was 2-s at 184 pounds with decisions over Bryan Hugo of Wabash and A.J. Aronstam of Lakeland, Wis., on Friday.

Painter went 3-2, winning by tech. fall 16-0 over Tom Griffin of Mt. St. Joseph, by decision over Stephen Mosier of Wabash and by major decision over Devon Jurczak of John Carroll at 165 points.

Northern finished the tournament in 16th place with 33.5 points.

The Polar Bears will return to Ohio Athletic Conference action on Tuesday at home against Mount Union at 7:30 pm at the ONU Sports Center.
