Senior two-time All-American defensive end Jason Trusnik (Macedonia/Nordonia) was signed to the active, 53-man roster of the New York Jets of the National Football League.

Trusnik was signed to the 53-man roster on Nov. 16 and played in his first professional game against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Nov. 18.

Trusnik originally signed with the Jets on May 1 and was in training camp with the team until being released on Sept. 2 when the Jets trimmed their roster from 75 players to the league mandated 53-man roster. He was one of seven players that was signed to the practice squad on Sept. 3.

Trusnik becomes the third Ohio Northern player to be under contract with an NFL team during the season.

Jamal Robertson played running back and special teams with the San Francisco 49ers, the Carolina Panthers and Atlanta Falcons from 2002-06 and Stacey Hairston played corner back with the Cleveland Browns from 1993-95.

While at Ohio Northern, the 6-5, 250-pound Trusnik was a two-time All-American and a two-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference honoree.

He participated in the inagural Texas vs. The Nation Division I-A all-star game in February, registering six tackles and a half a sack to lead The Nation to a 24-20 win over Texas.

He played in the Aztec Bowl in December, leading Team USA to a 28-7 victory over Mexico in Aquascalientes, Mexico. He had eight tackles, two sacks and was named one of the co-captains for Team USA.

He ended the 2006 season with 60 tackles and team-highs of 11 sacks and 19.5 TFL.

In his career, he is ONU's all-time career leader with 43 sacks and 85 TFL. He also ranks sixth all-time with 277 tackles.
