Ohio Northern senior golfers Chase Cummings (Tulsa, Okla./Liberty-Benton) and Wes Immler (Lorain/Amherst Steele) were named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Men’s At-Large team as voted upon by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Immler is a Second Team honoree and Cummings earned Third Team honors.

Both men were also named First Team Academic All-District IV and Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference this year.

Immler, a chemistry major, is a three-time Academic All-OAC honoree and earned All-Conference honors this spring.

The senior was consistently one of ONU’s top golfers, playing in 12 tournaments and finishing as one of five Polar Bears with a sub-80 stroke average at 79.9.

Immler recorded three top-10 finishes including taking medalist honors at the ONU Tri-Match during the fall.

Ten of his 20 rounds were in the 70s with the lowest being a 74 in the final round of the Mount Union Fall Invitational.

Cummings, a mechanical engineering major, played some of the best golf of his career during the spring. He averaged 75.2 strokes per round over his final ten rounds, including a pair of career-low 71s during that stretch.

At the OAC Championships, Cummings finished tied for third with rounds of 76-77—153 to earn his first career All-OAC honor. He also carded rounds of 75-74-71—220 at the OAC Spring Invitational to finish tied for second.

Cummings finished the season second on the team with a 79.3 stroke average and ends his career with an 82.6 average over 59.5 tournament rounds.

The duo led the Polar Bears to a 53-41-3 record and a third place finish at the OAC Championships in 2008 under third-year head coach Anthony Gholson.

The academic award winners are selected by members of CoSIDA. To be eligible for Academic All-District, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA, be a starter or key reserve and be in at least her second year of participation in the sport at his or her school.
