ADA - Sophomore forward Christian Huelsman recorded his second career hat trick to lead the Ohio Northern men’s soccer team to a 7-0 win over Defiance Tuesday afternoon at the ONU Soccer Field.
The Polar Bears better their record to 6-3-1 overall while the Yellow Jackets move to 3-5-0 overall.
Junior Dan Otanicar scored the first goal of the game just 42 seconds in when he threw the ball in to Dustin Conner, received it back and hit it far post for his sixth goal of the year.
Junior Chaz McCullah scored next in the fourth minute of action as he received a Dan Schade cross to the right side of the box where McCullah finished for his first goal of the season.
At the 4:33 mark, Schade collected another assist as he passed the ball into freshman Cameron Johnson in the box, who turned and scored his second goal of the season.
Sophomore Greg Stawicki scored his fifth goal of the season from point blank range as he received a pass from Otanicar in the thirtieth minute.
Shortly after halftime at the 48:08 mark, Huelsman put in his first goal off a McCullah cross into the middle of the box where he finished for a 5-0 ONU advantage.
McCullah tallied his fourth point of the afternoon as he crossed it to the middle of the box to Huelsman again for a goal at the 52:16 mark.
Huelsman completed the hat trick in the sixty-second minute from 15 yards out for his team-leading eighth goal of the year.
“We pressured them from the beginning and it led to a fast start for us,” said ONU head coach Brent Ridenour. “Today was a good recovery game for us from last week’s game. I look forward to starting conference play this weekend.”
Ohio Northern begins Ohio Athletic Conference action on Saturday as it travels to Muskingum for a match at 2 pm.
