Four golfers finish in top 11, Women's Golf earns second-place finish at OAC Championship

WEST LAFAYETTE -  Four Ohio Northern women's golfers finished in the top 11 of the Ohio Athletic Conference Championship, as the Polar Bears finished in second place for the second consecutive year with 706 strokes.

The championship event was hosted by Muskingum at the par-72, 6,122-yard River Greens Golf Club.

Otterbein turned in a dominating performance with its five golfers claiming the top five spots. Rustie Anderson was the OAC Championship Medalist with an 84-81--165, while the team finished with 665 strokes.

The Polar Bears are now 75-16-1 on the year.

Sophomore Ashley Johnson and junior Kaylea Thresher finished back-to-back in seventh and eighth place, respectively.

Johnson shot an 84-87--171, while Thresher fired consecutive 87s to finish at 174.

Johnson and Thresher also earned First Team All-OAC for their efforts during the season.

In her first two years, Johnson has recorded two top-10 finishes at the OAC Championship after finishing in sixth place a season ago.

Freshman Emily Gedert turned in a top-10 finish in her first OAC Championship, finishing in 10th place with an 88-90--178.

Sophomore Mindy Russell was 11th with a 90-93--183.

Gedert was a Second Team All-OAC selection, while Russell earned Honorable Mention All-OAC.

Junior Persha Ford was ONU's final finisher, claiming a tie for 21st with a 100-95--195 and earning Honorable Mention All-OAC.

Junior Megan Russell did not compete in the OAC Championship, but she was named Second Team All-OAC.

The Polar Bears will now wait for the NCAA Division III Championship field to be announced to see if they will compete in the event.
