Five Polar Bear men named to Academic All-OAC At-Large teams

ADA — Five Ohio Northern student/athletes were named to the 2009 Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference Men's At-Large team for 2008-09 in voting conducted by the league's 10 faculty advisors.
Senior tennis player Ryan Paul (West Milton/Milton-Union), junior swimmer Andrew Stephon (New Philadelphia) and sophomore swimmer Casey Davis (Canton/Jackson) were named Academic All-OAC.
Sophomore swimmer Michael Schultz (New Berlin, Wis./Berlin West) and sophomore tennis player Jeff Carter (Wilmington) were named Honorable Mention Academic All-Conference.
Paul, a management/sports management major, is a two-time Academic All-OAC honoree and is a three-time All-Conference honoree.
He was also named Academic All-District IV as a junior in 2008.
Paul ended his career ranked fifth all-time at ONU with a 120 victories. He is second all-time in doubles wins with a 70-28 career record, was 50-38 in singles play and was 120-56 overall.
This season, Paul was 11-14 at No. 1 singles, was 17-10 in doubles play and was 28-24 overall and was named the OAC Player of the Week on April 20.
Stephon, a computer engineering major, is a three-time OAC Champion and a four-time All-OAC honoree as a member of ONU relay teams.
This season, Stephon finished fifth at the OAC Championships in the 100-yard free and was seventh in the 200 free.
Davis, an accounting/international business major, is an OAC Chjampion in the 800 free relay and is a three-time All-OAC honoree.
This season, Davis earned All-OAC honors with a third place finish at the OAC Championships in the 500-yard freestyle. He also finished fourth in the 400 individual medley and 1650 freestyle events.
Schultz, a pharmacy major, is a two-time OAC Swimmer of the Year honoree, is a two-time NCAA III Championships participant, is a 12-time OAC Champion and is a 13-time All-OAC honoree.
This season, Schultz was named the OAC Swimmer of the Year, participated at the NCAA III Championships in the 200, 500 and 1650 freestyle events, and was a 6-time OAC Champion.
Schultz also owns nine ONU school records, including individual events such as the 200, 500, 1000, 1650 freestyle, the 200 back and the 100 fly.
Carter, a mechanical engineering major, was also a Second Team All-OAC honoree this season.
He finished 14-9 in singles play, was 17-9 in doubles and was 31-18 overall, playing most of his matches at No. 4 singles and No. 2 doubles.
In his two seasons as a Polar Bear, Carter is 17-9 in singles, 28-12 in doubles and is 45-21 overall.
