ADA — The Ohio Northern Men’s Soccer team defeated twentieth-ranked Baldwin-Wallace 4-0 Tuesday afternoon at the ONU Soccer Field.

The Polar Bears move to 12-3 overall and 3-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference while the Yellow Jackets fall to 11-3 overall and 1-3 in the OAC.

Junior goalkeeper Aaron Collins recorded 2 saves en route to his OAC-leading eighth shutout of the season.

Adam Ross set the tone for Ohio Northern as he beat two defenders and then the goalie to hit a shot far post into the back of the net 15:31 into the game for his fourth goal of the year.

Thirty-two seconds later, Ross sent a through-ball into freshmen Greg Stawicki who then proceded to rip a shot far post from 10 yards out at the 16:03 mark to give ONU a 2-0 lead.

The assist gives Ross six on the year while the goal is Stawicki’s third of the season.

Freshman Christian Huelsman added his OAC-leading tenth goal of the year as he put in a penalt-kick to the right side of the goal 32:48 into the match to give ONU a 3-0 halftime lead.

At the 75:44 mark, sophomore Chet Gapczynski dribbled through traffic on the left side of the field and sent a cross into junior Dan Schade who finished the goal from point-blank range on the right side.

The goal is Shade’s second of the season while the assist is Chet’s first of the year.

“Today was a good win over a nationally-ranked team,” said ONU coach Brent Ridenour. “I’m very happy with the win. We played well today and every win in the OAC is a big one.”

The Polar Bears will again be in action when they travel to John Carroll Saturday for a match at 2 pm.
