Double overtime goal propels Women's Soccer to 2-1 victory over Case Western

ADA — Senior Erin Stapp lead the Ohio Northern women’s soccer team to victory scoring the game-winning goal in overtime at Saturday’s home match against Case Western Reserve as the Polar Bears celebrated with a  2-1 win.

The Polar Bears record improves to 5-3-1 as the Spartans fall to 5-4.

With the score tied 1-1, Stapp scored in double overtime scoring from right in front of the goal off assists from Jennifer Klag and Katie Kinkelaar in the 108th minute.

With the match scoreless in the first half Natalie White put Ohio Northern in the lead with 72:23 on the clock on a header from a cross from Kim McGowan.

Anna Arruda was the only one to score for Case Western.

Gaining control of the ball after a scramble in the box, she scored unassisted at the 81:52 mark, tying up the game 1-1.

ONU outshot CWRU 26-13 and had six conerkicks compared to four for the Spartans.

“Case was a tough team,” said head coach Mark Batman. “We gave them a chance and they capitalized on it, but we were able to get it back in the end.”

The Polar Bears will be playing at  home again this Wednesday at 4 pm against Defiance.
