Culbertson ties ONU career assist record, as Women's Basketball downs Muskingum 65-52

ADA- Emily Culbertson tied Bootsie Reed in all-time assists with 216 for her career, as she hooked up with Alisha Rinehart for a 3-point field goal to help lead the Ohio Northern women’s basketball team past Muskingum 65-52 at the ONU Sports Center Wednesday night.

This moves the Polar Bears to 9-16 (7-10 Ohio Athletic Conference) as Muskingum falls to 16-8 (11-6 OAC)

Rinehart had a steal with 1:02 left to play and ran it down the court and assisted Tricia Fuller to put the Polar Bears up 61-52.

Fuller then had a steal with 28 seconds left and made two free throws to seal the game for Northern.

Muskingum went on a 10-2 run with 8:35 left in the first half to put them up 22-14 after three turnovers and an air ball by the Polar Bears.

After being down by eight points with 3:19 left in the half, Northern went on a 6-0 run, including a jumper at the buzzer by Rinehart, to bring the score to 26-24 Muskies at the half.

Rinehart led the team with 22 points and six rebounds, while she tied a career high with five assists.

Culbertson had seven points, two steals and one assist, as she’s only six steals away from passing Karla Thobe in all-time career steals.

Ericka Holcomb had seven points and tied a career high with one 3-point field goal.

The Muskies were led by Jessica McKenzie who had 16 points and six boards.

Tiffany Youel and Amanda Dobbins both had 10 points, while Youel also registered four rebounds on the day.

Rinehart is now only five points away from passing Robin Patterson as ONU’s all-time career scoring leader.

The Polar Bears will return to action against Mount Union on Saturday at 3 pm at the ONU Sports Center.
