ADA — Ohio Northern senior Jake Heaphy and sophomore Chad Coward were named Ohio Athletic Conference Football Players of the Week for their efforts in ONU's 31-21 win at Capital on Saturday.
Coward was named the Defensive Player of the Week for the first time in his career, while Heaphy was named the Special Teams Player of the Week for the fourth consecutive week and for the ninth time in his career.
Coward had a career-high 12 tackles (9 solo) 2.0 sacks and 3.0 tackles for loss to key ONU's solid defensive effort against the Crusaders.
Heaphy nailed a 49-yard field goal, was 4 for 4 on extra points, had six punts for a 35.3-yard average, which included a 60-yarder, and averaged 58.7 yards on his six kickoffs.
This is the fourth consecutive week that Heaphy has received the award. He won the honor three times as a junior in 2008 and once in each his freshman and sophomore seasons.
The No. 13-ranked Polar Bears will wrap up their 2009 regular season schedule on Saturday at Wilmington.
