Brent Donley, Jake Heaphy named OAC Football Players of the Week

By Tim Glon
ADA — Ohio Northern junior Brent Donley and senior Jake Heaphy were named Ohio Athletic Conference Football Players of the Week for their efforts in ONU's 35-14 win over John Carroll on Saturday.
Donley was named the Offensive Player of the Week for the first time in his career, while Heaphy was named the Special Teams Player of the Week for the second consecutive week and for the seventh time in his career.
Donley set an Ohio Northern record with 44 rushing attempts and gained a career-high 287 yard and a pair of touchdowns.
His 287 yards rushing is the third-most in a game in ONU history, 20 shy of the school-record 307 by Jamal Robertson against Marietta in 2000.
His 44 rushing attempts bettered the previous school record of 41 set by Robertson against John Carroll in 1999.
Donley dominated the game from the onset, carrying the ball on all seven plays as ONU marched 61 yards for a TD on its first possession, going up 7-0 with 3:27 gone in the contest when he swept in from 4 yards out.
Heaphy was 5 for 5 on extra points for the second consecutive week, had three punts for a 34.7-yard average with two downed at the JCU 2-yard line and averaged 56.3 yards on his six kickoffs with one touchback.
This is the second consecutive week that Heaphy has received the award. He won the honor three times as a junior in 2008 and once in each his freshman and sophomore seasons.
Northern will play host to Baldwin-Wallace this Saturday at 1:30 pm at Dial-Roberson Stadium in the final home game this season.
It is Senior Day and ONU will honor its 20 seniors on the squad.
The game will be broadcast tape-delay on Sports Time Ohio television and can be seen Saturday night at 10:30 pm, Sunday afternoon at Noon and Monday morning at 5 am.
