Bowsher, Dickman lead Men's Cross Country to victory at Mel Brodt Invitational at BGSU

BOWLING GREEN — Seniors Alan Bowsher and Justin Dickman finished 1-2 in the Division III race to lead the Ohio Northern men's cross country team to a victory at the Mel Brodt Invitational at Bowling Green State on Saturday afternoon.

The Polar Bears (6-2) finished first out of five teams in the Division III race and were second of 13 teams overall, defeating NCAA Division I schools Toledo, Marshall, and Bowling Green State and Division II schools Findlay, Siuena Heights (Mich.) and Ashland.

Dayton won the meet with 36 points, ONU and Toledo were second with 106 and Marshall was fourth with 130. ONU topped Toledo by virtue of the sixth man tiebreaker.

In the Division III race, ONU won with 28 points, Manchester (Ind.) was second with 41, Heidelberg was third with 75, Baldwin-Wallace was fourth with 95 and Wilmington was fifth with 125.

Bowsher won the Division III race and was seventh overall out of 168 runners in a career-best 24:58, making him the third-fastest senior and the fifth-fastest runner overall in ONU history.

Dickman finished second 90 among DIII runenrs and ninth overall in a career-best 25:14, making him the sixth-fastest senior and the eighth-fastest Polar Bear in school history.

Senior Brent Hiser finished seventh in the Division III race and was 26th overall in 25:48, junior Jacob Schoenlein was eighth in DIII and was 30th overall in 25:58and senior Ben McPheron was 10th in DIII and 38th overall in a career-low 26:11.

Sophomore Nick Swinford gave ONU the tiebreaker win over Toledo by finishing as ONU's sixth man in 43rd place overall in a career-best 26:22.

The Polar Bears will return to action next Saturday at the Calvin (Mich.) Select Meet.
