Bascom's early goal not enough as Men's Soccer falls to Wilmington 2-1

WILMINGTON — Freshman Nate Bascom scored the lone goal for the Ohio Northern men’s soccer team, who fell to Wilmington 2-1 Tuesday night.

The Polar Bears were the first to score in the game when Bascom found the back of the net after a cross from freshman Christian Huelsman at 4:53.

Wilmington returned a goal in the first period at 44:35 by Chris Shomo with an assist from Ramma Sharifi.

Later in the second period, Sharifi scored to seal the win at 80:48 on a cross from Todd Woolum.

ONU had an impressive 32 shots on goal for the game to Wilmington’s 12, including a 25-2 advantage in the second half.

Junior keeper Aaron Collins had four saves of the night, while Wilmington’s keeper Aaron Slusher had 15.

Northern falls to 13-5-1 overall and 4-3-1 in the OAC, while Wilmington advances to 10-7-1 for the season and 3-4-1 in the OAC.

The men’s soccer team will next play at 4:00 in Marietta on Friday.
