BEXLEY - Seniors Kaitlin Sanders and Stacey Barnhart connected on a corner kick at the 77:48 mark to put the Ohio Northern women's soccer team up 2-1 and give ONU the road victory against Capital Wednesday afternoon at Bernlohr Stadium.

The Polar Bears improve to 8-2-2 overall and 2-0-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Crusaders are now 7-4-2, 1-1-0.

Sanders lined up the corner kick and found an unmarked Barnhart in the middle of the box who was able to head the ball past the keeper.

The goal was Barnhart's third of the season and the assist was Sanders' sixth of the year.

Senior Angie Pisut got the Polar Bears on the board at the 30:21 mark after she received a pass from fellow senior Jamie Eiben on the left side of the goal.

Pisut settled the ball, touched the ball past her defender and beat the keeper far post for her 11th goal of the year. It was Eiben's fourth assist this season.

Northern had its first chance early in the second minute when Natalie White had a one-on-one opportunity with Capital goalkeeper Linley Vermillion that was saved.

The Crusaders had the next goal-scoring chance on a free kick from about midfield. ONU keeper Kristen DeWees fought through the traffic in the box to smother the ball and deny CU.

Pisut's goal in the 31st minute came at the end of a Polar Bear attacking flurry.

Jamie Eiben, White and Pisut had chances in the 24th, 26th and 28th minutes, respectively, to keep the Capital defense on its toes.

Capital came out aggressive in the second half, creating several chances on three corner kicks within the first nine minutes of the half.

The Crusaders had another great chance in 72nd minute when Molly Shiels took a shot from about 30 yards out, but DeWees made a diving save to her left.

Natasha Ballard scored Capital's goal in the 73rd minute on header that beat DeWees to the left.

DeWees ended the match with five saves.

Ohio Northern will travel to Mount Union on Saturday to continue OAC action at 2 pm.
