Alisha Rinehart pours in 24, but Baldwin-Wallace tops Women’s Basketball 62-51

BEREA — Senior Alisha Rinehart scored a game-high 24 points to lead Ohio Northern, but host Baldwin-Wallace posted a 62-51 Ohio Athletic Conference women’s basketball victory Saturday afternoon at Ursprung Gymnasium.

The Polar Bears fall to 8-11 overall and 6-6 in OAC action, while the Yellow Jackets improve to 14-5, 9-3.

The two schools have split the season series as Northern topped BW 67-60 on Dec. 13.

Freshman Kara Dysert scored 11 points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds for ONU.

A basket by Erica Schoenberger gave Northern an early 12-6 lead with 7:19 gone in the contest.

But BW battled back to tie the game at 24-24, then scored the final eight points of the half to take a 32-24 Lead into intermission.

The Polar Bears opened the second half on a 10-2 run to pull even at 34-all with 15:33 left in the game.

Baldwin-Wallace would pull away by scoring 15 of the game’s next 19 points to go up 49-38 with 8:58 to play and Northern would get no closer than eight points the rest of the way.

Ohio Northern made good on 17 of 49 shots from the floor for 34.7 percent, while BW made 21 of 50 shots for 42 percent.

The Yellow Jackets out-rebounded the Polar Bears 34-31 and forced 16 ONU turnovers while committing only 11 themselves.

Jessica Butzer scored 18 points off the bench, Amanda Schroeder added 14 and Ariel Brough chipped in 10 points for BW.

Northern will return to action on Wednesday with a road trip at Otterbein.
