Albert, Klag score as Women’s Soccer blanks John Carroll 2-0

ADA ­­—The Ohio Northern women’s soccer team shut out John Carroll 2-0 winning their match Saturday at the ONU soccer field thanks to a pair of goals within 1:44 of each other in the second half. 

The Polar Bears record improves to 10-4-1 and 4-1-0 in the OAC while the Blue Streaks fall to 9-3-3 and 2-2-1 in the OAC.

After a scoreless first half, the Polar Bears came out strong in the second half. Sophomore Chelsea Albert’s header was scored after a centering pass from Kristin Reininger from nearly midfield putting the Polar Bears ahead 1-0.

Less than two minutes later, senior Jennifer Klag scored off an assist from Kaitlin Sanders from the top of the box.

ONU outshot John Carroll 15-7 and had five corner kicks compared to only one for the Blue Streaks.

Freshman goalie Kristen DeWees had four saves on the night, recording her second shutout of the season.

“It was a good win,” said head coach Mark Batman. “John Carroll is a tough team and every win is just as important as the next.”   

The Polar Bears will travel to Tiffin this Tuesday at 7 pm as they take on Heidelberg.
