Applying for Financial Aid

Upon receiving your letter of acceptance, you should:

Step 1: Obtain the 2008-2009 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) from you high school counselor or the ONU Aid Office. File the FAFSA after January 1, 2008 as soon as you and your parents have completed your 2007 Federal Income Tax Return. If you want to estimate your income in order to file the FAFSA earlier, that is fine. You can go back and make corrections later when the taxes are complete. Send the FAFSA to the Federal Processor (Department of Education) with ONU's federal code of 003089. The Department of Education will determine your minimum expected federal contribution for the 2008-2009 year. Your contribution is subtracted from ONU's costs, and the remainder is your Federal Need at ONU. Based on your need, the Aid Office will outline your eligibility for need-related aid programs described on this site.

Step 2: Receive the Student Aid Report (SAR) from the Federal Processor approximately two to four weeks after you submit the FAFSA. Check the SAR for accuracy and provide corrections if necessary, following the SAR directions.

Step 3: Receive an Award Letter outlining your eligibility for all scholarships, grants, loans and work opportunities in the spring prior to enrollment. If you wish to accept your aid offer, you must submit the Award Letter to ONU. Submitting your Award Letter will reserve your aid should you decide to attend ONU.

**Please note that the ONU Financial Aid Application will only be used in 2008-2009 if you are not planning to file the FAFSA.
