Speaker Biographies
Samuel A. Donaldson, JD, University of Arizona, LLM in taxation, University of Florida, is a professor at the University of Washington School of Law in Seattle and director of the law school’s Graduate Program in Taxation. Donaldson is a four-time recipient of the Philip A. Trautman Professor of the Year Award from the School of Law’s Student Bar Association. He is currently of counsel with the Seattle office of Perkins Coie LLP and is an academic fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC). Also a member of the bar associations in Washington, Oregon and Arizona, he is the author of the Thomson-West casebook Federal Income Taxation of Individuals, a co-author of the Price on Contemporary Estate Planning treatise, published by CCH, and a co-author of Federal Wealth Transfer Taxes, a reference published by Thomson-West.
Thom Rogers, BA ’73, JD ’77, an attorney and accountant by profession, designs estate and asset protection plans. He founded Sweetwater Law Offices PLC, an estate- and charitable-planning law firm in Longwood (Orlando), Fla., in 1981 and Wealth Strategies Collaborative Inc. in 2000. Rogers received his Bachelor of Arts in accounting, cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, and his JD from Ohio Northern University. He is a frequent lecturer, instructor, and contributing author and reviewer for The Cutting Edge Conspectus, a technical estate-planning journal for attorneys, CPAs and professional advisors. He is a member of the Florida Bar and the Florida Institute of CPAs. He founded the Wealth Strategies Collaborative Institute, a national organization of colleagues, and the Central Florida Estate Planning Institute, a local study group of professionals. Rogers currently chairs the Florida Hospital Foundation Planned Giving Committee and is a consultant to a number of charities. In addition, he is a former executive committee member of the Members Advisory Board of the National Network of Estate Planning Attorneys, a member of the Association of Attorney-Certified Public Accountants, and a fellow and faculty member of the Esperti Peterson Institute, an organization of Global Wealth Strategists.
