General Overview

The minimum requirements for participation in study abroad programs are established by the individual colleges of Ohio Northern University. Your academic advisor will be able to assist you in evaluating your qualifications for a study abroad program. Primary considerations may include, but are not limited to, a statement of interest, acceptable grade point average, and completion of a stated minimum number of credit hours.

Students at all stages in their educational career are encouraged to study abroad. Various personal and academic circumstances will come into play when deciding on the appropriate time for a study abroad experience. For some students a short-term, summer, or semester session overseas during or between freshman/sophomore years is appropriate. This initial experience may also create a desire on the part of the student for extensive immersion in a foreign culture at some point in the future. In general, the optimum time for spending a full year on a study abroad exchange program is the junior year. The university requires that the last 45 credit hours be completed in residence at Ohio Northern University.

General inquiries about all programs are welcome in the Study Abroad Office. However, in instances of discipline specific programs (i.e. theatre, art & design, etc.) it is recommended that students first contact their college dean or international study abroad faculty coordinator.
