Nationally competitive awards are available to superior students of all years and interests. Some examples are
  • Goldwater Scholarships, awarded to undergraduates with significant scientific research;
  • Gilman Scholarships, supporting underrepresented students studying abroad in non-traditional locations;
  • Javits Fellowships, funding graduate study in the arts, humanities, or social sciences;
  • Fulbright Grants, financing post-baccalaureate study, research, or teaching in more than 140 countries worldwide;
  • and many others.

When applying for these external awards, students and recent graduates compete with candidates from around the country and, in some cases, across the globe. Winning a major award is a great honor that can pave the way for future opportunities, but applying is valuable in and of itself. Whether or not you receive a prestigious scholarship, you will emerge from the application process with a stronger sense of self and a clearer vision of who you might become.
